193% Returns in 1 Year: This Multibagger Defence Stock Locked in 5% Upper Circuit; Here's Why

Sigma Advanced Systems has secured a USD 104.9 million export contract to supply 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies, strengthening revenue visibility, margins and its position in the global defence manufacturing supply chain.

On Monday, Sigma Advanced Systems' share price was locked in the 5 per cent upper circuit at Rs 549.15 after the company announced that it had secured a USD 104.9 million (approximately Rs 1,013 crore) export order from a North American customer for the manufacture and supply of 147,000 next-generation extended-range 155mm base bleed artillery shell bodies. The contract, to be executed over the next six to 12 months, is expected to strengthen the company's order book, enhance revenue visibility, and support profitability through margin-accretive execution.

The contract will be executed over the next six to 12 months and is expected to add incremental revenue while supporting EBITDA margins. The company stated that the order is margin accretive and will contribute to overall profitability improvement, strengthening revenue visibility during the execution period.

The win comes amid rapidly growing global investment in artillery modernisation. Defence forces across multiple regions are prioritising ammunition stockpiling and extended-range fire support capabilities to enhance operational readiness, resulting in sustained demand across allied and partner nations. Sigma said its ability to manufacture high-precision systems at scale positions it within a global supply chain experiencing continued demand.

Under the programme, the company will manufacture precision-engineered artillery projectile casings designed for integration into extended-range ammunition systems. Base bleed shells differ from conventional artillery shells in that they incorporate a gas-generating unit at the rear of the projectile to reduce aerodynamic drag and turbulence during flight. This design significantly extends the effective range of the artillery system while maintaining compatibility with existing 155mm platforms in service worldwide.

The latest order builds on Sigma’s earlier contracts for 155mm fuzes and M107 artillery shell bodies. With the new programme, the company is producing more technologically advanced base bleed shells that integrate aerodynamics, energetics, propulsion-related technologies and systems engineering into a single projectile system. Sigma said this progression reflects its strategy to move up the value chain in artillery ammunition by building engineering capabilities and programme credentials expected by global customers from long-term strategic suppliers.

Beyond its commercial value, the contract is expected to enhance Sigma’s position as an export-qualified manufacturer within the international artillery ammunition ecosystem. The company noted that the programme is likely to serve as a reference to support its efforts in building relationships with new overseas customers and partners, reinforcing its stated goal of deepening its role in global defence manufacturing.
