BDL remained in focus on Friday after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone for the company’s new Naval Systems Manufacturing Facility at T. Siraspalli in Andhra Pradesh.
According to the company’s media release dated May 15, 2026, the upcoming manufacturing facility will be developed at T. Siraspalli village in Anakapalli district of Andhra Pradesh. The project marks a significant step toward strengthening India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and advancing the government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative in the strategic defence sector.
The new manufacturing complex is being established to meet the increasing requirements of the Indian Navy for advanced underwater weapon systems and naval combat systems. Spread across nearly 160 acres, the facility will include advanced manufacturing and assembly infrastructure, integration buildings, explosive handling and storage facilities, testing infrastructure including acoustic tank facilities, administrative buildings and a dedicated green belt.
The project is expected to significantly enhance Bharat Dynamics’ production capacity and improve execution capabilities for multiple defence projects. The company also stated that the facility will strengthen collaboration with DRDO laboratories and Indian Navy establishments located in the Visakhapatnam region.
The plant will primarily focus on underwater weapon systems, torpedoes, mines and associated naval systems. The facility is being developed with an estimated investment of around Rs 500 crore and is expected to be completed in approximately four years.
Apart from strengthening national security, the project is expected to create around 3,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting local MSMEs and ancillary industries in the region.
