The joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Limited (SAMRX), a part of Motherson, has entered into a strategic agreement with Dighi Port Limited (DPL), a subsidiary of Adani-ports-and-special-economic-zone-ltd-132921">Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ), to establish a dedicated facility for auto exports at the Dighi Port in Maharashtra. This partnership is set to transform Dighi Port into a major new automobile exports terminal for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) located in the crucial Mumbai to Pune auto belt. The initiative aligns with India's "Make in India" vision, aiming to significantly boost the seamless export and import of vehicles for global markets.

The new facility will be a Roll on and Roll Off (RoRo) terminal featuring state-of-the-art infrastructure designed to handle end-to-end Finished Vehicle (FV) logistics. SAMRX will invest in the terminal to offer a comprehensive logistics solution, including 360-degree cargo visibility and various value-added services. These services include Single-window RoRo operations covering yard management, Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), charging, storage and vessel loading. The terminal will also utilise AI-driven yard optimisation for near-zero dwell time and real-time vehicle traceability, offering the fastest OEM evacuation route from Maharashtra’s auto belt via NH-66. Significantly, the facility is designed as an EV-ready logistics hub to support the export of next-generation electric vehicles.

Dighi Port was chosen for this strategic expansion due to its advantageous location on the west coast, making it a crucial gateway for Maharashtra’s industrial heartland. As one of APSEZ’s 15 strategic ports, Dighi already handles diverse cargo like oil, chemical, container and bulk cargo, supported by direct berthing and excellent road connectivity. Its expansion into dedicated RoRo operations represents a key milestone in APSEZ’s vision to create integrated, future-ready logistics hubs. This move strengthens APSEZ's commitment to providing world-class port infrastructure and enhancing trade connectivity, thereby supporting India's automotive sector growth on a global scale.
