Fund of Fortnight

Every fortnight, we recommend one open-ended equity diversified fund that has the best potential of returns for the next one year considering its constituents remain the same.

Reason for recommendation
After a prolonged phase of range-bound movement, Indian equities have picked up pace over the last three months, though the road to a full recovery remains uneven. In such a phase, multi-asset funds that blend equity, debt and commodities offer a way to participate in the upturn while capping drawdown risk, a different proposition from pure-Equity Funds chasing beta. WhiteOak Capital Multi Asset Allocation Fund Direct-Growth fits this profile, pairing equity exposure with a sizeable commodity sleeve to keep volatility in check.

On returns, the fund has delivered a CAGR of roughly 13.2 per cent over one year and about 17 per cent over three years, taking its since-inception CAGR to near 17.2 per cent. This is a competitive showing set against its peers. Over one year, its peer generated the category average of 11.1 per cent, outperforming by almost 200 percentage points. The three-year performance was even stronger at 16.49 per cent compared with 15.26 per cent for the category. The fund's allocation reflects its defensive, multi-asset design rather than an equity-first approach. Debt is the single largest component at 38.9 per cent, giving the portfolio a stable income base and reducing overall volatility. Equity follows at 29.32 per cent, providing the growth lever needed to participate in market upswings. Real Estate, at 18.58 per cent, largely through REITs and InvITs, adds a yield-generating, lowcorrelation layer distinct from both equity and debt. Commodities, primarily gold and silver, account for 10.89 per cent, serving as an inflation hedge and a cushion during equity drawdown.

Managed by a five-member team, Piyush Baranwal, Ashish Agrawal, Ramesh Mantri, Trupti Agrawal and Dheeresh Pathak, the fund runs an AUM of ₹7,107 crore at a 0.65 per cent expense ratio. For investors wary of pure equity swings but unwilling to sit out the recovery, this fund offers a steadier, lower-beta route to staying invested.
