HCLTech Meltdown: Stock Crashes 3.5% As Investors Turn Nervous

HCLTech shares fell 3.50 per cent as investors turned cautious ahead of Q2 FY27 results, with concerns around organic growth, pricing pressure and IT spending weighing on sentiment.

HCL Technologies shares were trading at Rs 1,199.60, down 3.50 per cent, as of 2:59 pm on October 5, 2026, according to the market data shown above. The stock had closed at Rs 1,243.10 in the previous session, putting the decline at Rs 43.50. The stock also touched an Intraday low of Rs 1,198.10.

The fall is notable because the broader IT sector received a positive boost from Accenture's latest results and outlook. HCLTech, however, remained under pressure as investors turned their attention to the upcoming September quarter results and the challenges facing traditional IT services.

Why Is HCLTech Stock Falling Today?

There is no major negative company announcement that directly explains Monday's decline. The weakness appears to be linked mainly to positioning ahead of the Q2 FY27 earnings season and concerns around growth, pricing pressure and discretionary technology spending.

HCLTech was among the worst-performing large IT stocks during the session even as the Nifty IT index was trading higher after Accenture reported stronger-than-expected results and gave a better revenue outlook.

This suggests that investors are looking beyond the positive global IT signal and focusing on company-specific earnings expectations.

Q2 Results Are The Next Big Test

HCLTech is scheduled to report its Q2 FY27 results on October 12, 2026. Ahead of the results, analysts expect HCLTech to remain one of the better performers among Large-Cap IT companies. Nuvama expects 2.7 per cent sequential constant-currency revenue growth, partly supported by acquisitions.

However, the brokerage also expects around 0.8 percentage points of that growth to come from acquisitions, making organic growth an important number to watch.

AI And Pricing Pressure Remain Concerns

The broader IT industry is going through a structural change as clients increasingly demand productivity gains from artificial intelligence.

While AI is creating new opportunities for companies such as HCLTech, it is also putting pressure on traditional technology services pricing. Clients are increasingly looking for fixed-cost or outcome-based projects rather than simply paying for additional manpower.

HCLTech's own business update shows the two sides of this transition. Its Advanced AI revenue rose 62.1 per cent year-on-year to USD 171 million in Q1 FY27, while total constant-currency revenue growth was 2.6 per cent year-on-year.

HCLTech Has Strong Deal Bookings, But Conversion Matters

The company entered FY27 with a strong Order Book. HCLTech reported record Q1 new deal bookings of USD 2.4 billion.

Its Q1 FY27 revenue stood at Rs 34,579 crore, up 13.9 per cent year-on-year, while net income increased 20.3 per cent to Rs 4,624 crore.

However, the market is increasingly focused on how quickly large contract wins convert into revenue. Strong bookings provide visibility, but they do not automatically translate into immediate topline growth.

Guidance And Margins Will Be Closely Watched

HCLTech's FY27 guidance currently calls for 1 per cent to 4 per cent revenue growth in constant-currency terms, with services revenue growth of 1.5 per cent to 4.5 per cent. Its EBIT margin guidance is 17.5 per cent to 18.5 per cent.

With the September quarter results approaching, investors will be looking for signs that the company can deliver within this range while protecting margins amid pricing pressure.

Stock Remains Well Below Its 52-week high

The latest decline has also pushed HCLTech further away from its 52-week high of Rs 1,770, while the 52-week low stands at Rs 1,030.

At the Rs 1,199.60 level shown in the market snapshot, the stock was already about 32 per cent below its 52-week high.

The key question now is whether the upcoming Q2 results can provide evidence of stronger organic growth and improving demand, particularly as AI-related spending starts becoming a larger part of enterprise technology budgets.

For now, the HCLTech fall appears to reflect earnings caution, questions around organic growth and pricing pressure, rather than a fresh negative corporate development.
