India's Largest Carmaker Just Posted Its Strongest March in Years - The Numbers Tell the Story

March 2026 production rises 19 per cent year-on-year to 2.32 lakh units; exports hit record high in FY2025-26

Maruti Suzuki’s share price was trading at Rs 12,301 at 11.15 AM on April 2, 2026, down 1.66 per cent for the session. The stock opened at Rs 12,389, touched an Intraday high of Rs 12,420, and held a low of Rs 12,239 during the day.

Maruti Suzuki recorded a total production volume of 2,31,933 units in March 2026, a 19 per cent increase compared to 1,94,901 units produced in March 2025. The growth was broad-based across segments, with passenger vehicles and utility vehicles both contributing meaningfully to the jump. On the sales front, the company sold a total of 2,25,251 units in March 2026. This included domestic sales of 1,69,428 units, sales to other OEMs of 8,783 units, and exports of 47,040 units, compared to 32,968 units exported in March 2025, a jump of over 42 per cent in export volume on a year-on-year basis.

Passenger vehicle production came in at 2,27,942 units for the month, up from 1,91,180 units in the same period last year. Within the passenger vehicle category, the Mini and Compact sub-segment, which includes models such as Alto, S-Presso, Baleno, Swift, WagonR, Dzire, Celerio, and Ignis, produced 1,12,283 units compared to 1,05,769 units in March 2025. The standout performance came from the Utility Vehicle segment. Models including Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, Victoris, and XL6 collectively recorded production of 1,02,622 units in March 2026, a sharp increase from 72,158 units in the year-ago period, reflecting sustained consumer preference toward SUVs and crossovers in the Indian market.

The Vans segment, represented by the Eeco, produced 13,037 units compared to 11,755 units in March 2025. The Mid-Size segment, which included the Ciaz, recorded no production in March 2026 against 1,498 units in the previous year, indicating a continued phase-out of the model. Light Commercial Vehicles, represented by the Super Carry, contributed 3,991 units to the overall production tally, marginally higher than the 3,721 units recorded in March 2025.

FY 2025-26 Closes on a Record Note

For the full financial year 2025-26, Maruti Suzuki achieved total sales of 24,22,713 units, surpassing the 2 million annual sales mark for the third consecutive year. Domestic sales for the year stood at 18,61,704 units, the highest ever recorded by the company. Exports for the year came in at 4,47,774 units, also the highest ever, compared to 3,32,585 units in FY 2024-25, reflecting growing international demand for Maruti's portfolio.

The strong March production and sales numbers round off what has been a record financial year for the company, with utility vehicles continuing to drive volume growth alongside robust export performance.
