Nifty and Sensex Rise for 3rd Day; IT Sector Surges Over 2%

At the close, the Nifty 50 index gained 180.85 points or 0.70 per cent to end at 25,875.80, while the Sensex advanced 595.19 points or 0.71 per cent to close at 84,466.51.

On Wednesday, November 12, Indian equity markets extended their gains for the third consecutive session. The rally was led by information technology stocks amid progress in US–India trade talks and optimism about the resolution of the prolonged US government shutdown.

At the close, the Nifty 50 index gained 180.85 points or 0.70 per cent to end at 25,875.80, while the Sensex advanced 595.19 points or 0.71 per cent to close at 84,466.51. Both benchmarks remain about 1.5 per cent below their all-time highs. India’s volatility index, India VIX, declined by 3 per cent.

Among the 11 key sectoral indices, nine ended in positive territory. The Nifty IT index surged 2.04 per cent, marking its third consecutive day of gains. The Nifty Auto index rose 1.24 per cent, with 10 out of 15 constituents closing higher, while the Nifty Realty index slipped 0.49 per cent.

Broader markets outperformed the frontline indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 advancing 0.79 per cent and 0.82 per cent, respectively.

In stock-specific action, Belrise Industries climbed 2.34 per cent after posting an 82 per cent rise in quarterly profit. BSE shares gained nearly 5 per cent following a 61 per cent profit rise in the September quarter, supported by higher index derivative volumes. Meanwhile, Thermax declined 3.36 per cent after reporting a 39 per cent fall in profit due to delays caused by an extended monsoon.

Broker Groww’s parent firm, Billionbrains Garage Ventures, made its stock market debut at a 12 per cent premium following its Rs 6,632.30 crore IPO, which was subscribed 17.6 times last week.

On the Nifty 50, the top contributors to index gains were Tata Motors (+31.54 points), Reliance Industries (+27.16 points), and Bharti Airtel (+21.16 points). Major draggers included HDFC Bank (-4.83 points), Tata Steel (-4.22 points), and Axis Bank (-3.75 points).

Market breadth remained positive, with 1,927 stocks advancing, 1,178 declining, and 80 remaining unchanged out of 3,200 traded on the NSE. A total of 81 stocks hit their 52-week highs, 85 recorded new lows, 98 stocks were locked in Upper Circuits, and 57 in Lower Circuits.
