Nifty Extends Losing Streak; Midcap & Small-cap Outperform, SBI Hits Fresh 52-Week High

The Nifty 50 ended nearly 148 points below its intraday high and close to the day’s low, dragged primarily by heavyweight private sector lenders HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank

After opening Tuesday’s session on a positive note, Indian equity benchmark indices reversed direction and closed lower following a highly volatile trading day. The Nifty 50 slipped 0.29 per cent, falling below the 25,900 mark on the eve of the November series monthly F&O expiry, while the Sensex declined 0.37 per cent. India VIX also plunged more than 7 per cent.

The Nifty 50 ended nearly 148 points below its Intraday high and close to the day’s low, dragged primarily by heavyweight private sector lenders HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank. With this decline, the index extended its losing streak for the third straight session on Tuesday, November 25, 2025.

In terms of index contribution, SBI, Reliance Industries and BEL were the major positive contributors, adding 11.74 points, 6.09 points and 5.03 points, respectively. Meanwhile, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Infosys weighed on the index, dragging it by 32.5 points, 18 points and 14.07 points, respectively.

Sector-wise, seven of the eleven major indices finished in negative territory. In contrast, Nifty Realty and Nifty PSU Bank stood out as top performers, posting gains of 1.62 per cent and 1.44 per cent, respectively, with all constituents of both indices closing in the green. Notably, SBI, a key component of Nifty PSU Bank, touched a fresh 52-week high.

The broader markets also outperformed the frontline indices, with the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 closing firmly in positive territory.

Overall market breadth on November 25, 2025, remained slightly tilted towards gainers, with 1,380 stocks advancing compared with 1,306 declining.
