India’s key equity benchmarks, the Nifty 50 and the Sensex, closed in positive territory on Monday, March 16, after staging a sharp Intraday recovery. The benchmarks swung between losses and gains during a volatile trading session as traders closely monitored the ongoing U.S.–Iran conflict and fluctuations in global energy prices.

The Nifty 50 opened with a marginal loss and slipped below the 23,000 mark in early trade. However, the index witnessed a sharp recovery after midday trading and eventually closed more than 1 per cent higher. The Sensex also rebounded strongly during the session, recovering over 1,000 points from the day’s low to touch an intraday high.

At the closing bell, the Nifty 50 ended higher by 257.70 points, or 1.11 per cent, at 23,408.80. The Sensex advanced 938.93 points, or 1.26 per cent, to 75,502.85. Meanwhile, the Bank Nifty index gained 655 points to close at 54,413. India’s volatility indicator, India VIX, declined by 4.6 per cent, reflecting easing market nervousness.

Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd witnessed a trading volume of around 14.52 crore shares and is currently trading at Rs 206.11, up from the previous close of Rs 178.14, reflecting a 15.70 per cent change. The stock has given returns of 80.01 per cent from its 52-week low of Rs 114.50 and is close to its 52-week high of Rs 212.31. Price volume breakout and a volume spike were observed in today’s session.

Adani-power-ltd-209867">Adani Power Ltd recorded a trading volume of approximately 9.02 crore shares and is currently trading at Rs 154.21, compared with the previous close of Rs 146.57, registering a 5.21 per cent change. The stock has delivered returns of 66.89 per cent from its 52-week low and is trading below its 52-week high of Rs 182.70. Price volume breakout and a volume spike were visible in trading activity.
