Rs 2,50,22,719 Recovered in Cyber Fraud Case by Water Treatment Company; Directors to Forego Salary Until Full Recovery

In a recent development, the company has recovered Rs 2,50,22,719 so far, and recovery efforts are ongoing. Accordingly, the net financial impact on the company currently stands at Rs 8,64,77,281. The matter is under active investigation by the Cyber Crime authorities.

With the advent of technology and the world turning increasingly digital, there has been a notable rise in cyber fraud cases. What’s particularly striking is that not only individuals but also companies are falling prey to such frauds.

In a recent update, a Small-Cap company engaged in wastewater management and water supply projects—as a project developer under the HAM mode and as an EPC works contractor for projects such as drinking water treatment plants (WTPs), sewage treatment plants (STPs), Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs), industrial water reuse projects, and urban and rural drinking water distribution networks for various government entities—reported a serious incident.

Enviro Infra Engineers, in its press release, informed that an amount of Rs 11,15,00,000 was fraudulently transferred from the company’s bank account to certain unidentified accounts through impersonation of a company director. This incident was reported by the company on July 2, 2025.

In a recent development, the company has recovered Rs 2,50,22,719 so far, and recovery efforts are ongoing. Accordingly, the net financial impact on the company currently stands at Rs 8,64,77,281. The matter is under active investigation by the Cyber Crime authorities.

The company has taken immediate corrective measures, including:

  • Strengthening internal controls and authorization protocols related to banking transactions
  • Increasing awareness among employees regarding cyber fraud risks and preventive measures

Interestingly, the Executive Directors of the company have voluntarily chosen to forgo their salaries until the entire loss is fully compensated, as a measure to mitigate the financial impact of this cyber fraud incident.

Despite this setback, Enviro Infra Engineers reported a 31 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in Q4FY25 and a 30 per cent rise in profit after tax (PAT). During the year, the company secured new EPC and O&M projects worth over Rs 200 crore.
