The indication follows a strong domestic session on October 13, when the Nifty 50 gained 358.60 points, or 1.60 per cent, while the Sensex rose 1,109.10 points, or 1.54 per cent. Global signals were mixed overnight, with U.S. equities ending largely flat to lower, while major Asian indices traded modestly higher. Investors will monitor elevated crude oil prices, upcoming U.S. inflation data and stock-specific earnings announcements.

U.S. consumer price index data due later on Wednesday will be a key trigger for global markets. Concerns that inflation could accelerate again have raised the possibility of higher U.S. bond yields and a stronger dollar. The inflation reading will be an important input for upcoming Federal Reserve policy decisions. A stronger-than-expected reading could revive concerns about prolonged tight monetary conditions, potentially affecting foreign portfolio flows, the rupee, Indian bond yields and rate-sensitive sectors such as banks and non-banking financial companies. Export-oriented businesses will also remain attentive to currency movements and global demand signals.

Global technology sentiment has turned cautious amid concerns about artificial intelligence investment valuations and a sell-off in Semiconductor stocks. South Korea's Kospi declined 5.50 per cent as semiconductor shares weakened, while the International Monetary Fund cautioned that weaker-than-expected AI investment or profitability could trigger a market correction. These developments may influence Indian IT and technology-linked stocks, particularly after the previous session's sharp domestic rally. Engineering research and development companies and large software exporters could remain in focus as investors reassess technology-sector valuations.

The corporate earnings calendar is also active on October 14, with ICICI Lombard General Insurance, HDB Financial Services, Canara Bank, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), CEAT and Tata Technologies among the companies scheduled to report quarterly results. Their earnings, management commentary and margin trends may drive stock-specific movements across banking, insurance, capital goods, auto ancillaries, consumer businesses and IT services as the reporting season gathers pace.

SEBI has also proposed mandatory monitoring agencies for all issuances other than offers for sale, irrespective of issue size. These proposals are relevant for companies planning Equity Fundraising, recently listed firms and the broader capital-markets ecosystem.

Fusion CX's Rs 702 crore initial public offering (IPO) opens for subscription on October 14 and closes on October 16. The company raised Rs 315 crore from anchor investors, with shares allotted at Rs 289 each. Domestic Mutual Funds received 77.84 per cent of the 1.09 crore anchor shares allotted. Subscription trends in the issue could provide an indication of institutional and retail participation in the primary market.

Wall Street ended mixed in the previous session. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.35 per cent to 51,670.10, while the Nasdaq declined 0.15 per cent to 27,204.38. The S&P 500 was nearly unchanged, slipping 0.02 per cent to 7,805.45. The session reflected caution around AI-related investment expectations and elevated global yields. The U.S. CPI release later on Wednesday adds another potential source of volatility for global equities.

Asian markets were modestly positive among the major indices tracked in early trade. Japan's Nikkei rose 0.47 per cent, Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.30 per cent and the Shanghai Composite edged up 0.10 per cent. However, technology-sector volatility in the region remains a key consideration. European equities closed marginally lower in the previous session, with the FTSE 100 slipping 0.06 per cent and Germany's DAX and France's CAC 40 each declining around 0.07 per cent.

Crude oil prices remained elevated. Brent crude traded at USD 107 per barrel as of 7:00 AM IST on October 14, up 0.68 per cent, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude stood at USD 96.20 per barrel, higher by 0.40 per cent. Higher crude prices are a concern for India as a major oil importer and could affect the import bill, inflation expectations, the rupee and fuel-sensitive sectors.

Gold was trading at USD 4,164.22, up 0.07 per cent, while silver was largely unchanged at USD 59.16 as of 7:00 AM IST. The U.S. Dollar Index was nearly unchanged at 102.18. The rupee traded around Rs 95.28 per U.S. dollar, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield stood at 5.22 per cent. Movements in U.S. yields and the inflation data due later in the day could influence global risk appetite and foreign portfolio flows into emerging markets.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers of Rs 1,305.13 crore on October 13, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of Rs 2,439.24 crore. The divergence reflected continued domestic buying amid foreign outflows. India VIX fell 7.41 per cent to 14.12, indicating easing volatility expectations. However, a decline in the volatility index does not, by itself, indicate the direction of the market.
