Stock Below Rs 50 Announces 5X Capacity Expansion; FII Stake Also Increases

Mukka Proteins has outlined a phased expansion of its Bengaluru Black Soldier Fly facilities, targeting 400 TPD by March 2027 and 1,000 TPD by December 2027 to convert municipal wet waste into feed and farm-input products.

Mukka Proteins Ltd has set out a plan to increase the processing capacity of its Bengaluru wet-waste bioconversion operations fivefold to 1,000 tonnes per day by December 2027, expanding its presence beyond conventional marine-protein products into waste-to-value animal nutrition and agricultural inputs.

The company currently handles 200 tonnes per day, or TPD, of organic wet waste in Bengaluru. It plans to raise intake to 400 TPD by March 2027 before scaling up gradually to 1,000 TPD by December 2027. The expansion will use automated Black Soldier Fly, or Hermetia illucens, bioconversion technology.

Bengaluru Waste Processing Capacity to Reach 1,000 TPD

At peak municipal intake, the facilities are designed to process up to 1,000 TPD of organic waste. Bengaluru generates more than 4,000 metric tonnes of solid waste daily, of which 50 per cent to 60 per cent is biodegradable wet waste, according to the company. That suggests the proposed capacity could eventually address a meaningful, though still limited, share of the city’s organic-waste stream.

The Black Soldier Fly larval process reduces raw organic waste mass by around 80 per cent over a 10- to 14-day cycle, Mukka Proteins said. The resulting stabilised biomass is processed into insect protein meal, insect oil, insect frass compost, and humic acid and bio-stimulant products.

Expansion Supports Mukka Proteins’ Diversification Strategy

The Bengaluru expansion is consistent with Mukka Proteins’ broader effort to diversify its fish-protein-led business through alternate proteins, waste management and environmental solutions. Its conventional marine-protein and oil-processing network across India and Oman has capacity of more than 2,91,720 MTPA, providing an established manufacturing and export base that the company expects to support the newer platform through supply-chain access, blending capabilities and quality certifications.

The waste-to-protein initiative also offers a strategic hedge against the cyclicality of the marine-ingredient business. Fishmeal availability and pricing are influenced by fish catches, weather conditions and anchovy quotas in key global producing regions. Insect-based ingredients could provide an alternative protein source for aquaculture and poultry customers, although commercial adoption and feed-safety approvals will remain important determinants of scale.

Execution and Customer Adoption Remain Key Growth Factors

The expansion roadmap therefore adds a potentially scalable growth avenue, but its execution will depend on reliable municipal waste sourcing, efficient plant operations, regulatory compliance and customer acceptance of insect-derived feed ingredients. The company has said the global insect meal and lipid market could exceed USD 3.5 billion by 2030, while agricultural bio-stimulants are supported by demand for lower chemical-input farming practices.

FII's Increase Stake

FII stake in the company increased from 1.70 per cent in March to 1.73 per cent in June, marking an increase of 0.03 percentage points.
