With U.S. bond yields rising, could the Indian equity market feel the impact, and if so, why? - Namrata Abhyankar [EasyDNNnews:PaidContentStart]
Editor Responds: Rising U.S. bond yields can put pressure on Indian equities through several channels. Higher yields increase the attractiveness of U.S. fixed-income assets, which can encourage global investors to reallocate capital away from emerging markets, including India. This can lead to foreign portfolio outflows and add pressure on the rupee. A weaker rupee can further influence inflation expectations and the outlook for domestic interest rates. Higher global yields can also raise the cost of capital for Indian companies, particularly those dependent on foreign funding.
However, the impact need not be uniform or immediate. Strong domestic liquidity, healthy corporate earnings, India’s structural growth prospects and a relatively resilient domestic economy can provide support. Therefore, investors should track U.S. Treasury yields, FPI flows, currency movements, domestic bond yields and corporate earnings to assess the intensity of the impact.
