After a day-long roller-coaster ride, green is the colour for Nifty finally

The Indian markets saw a jerky trading session during the last session of February's second week. After the mid-session, benchmark indices witnessed unexpected up move to provide relief to the investors.

The Indian markets saw a jerky trading session during the last session of February's second week. After the mid-session, benchmark indices witnessed unexpected up move to provide relief to the investors. Auto index outperformed during the day and index was up by 268 points, while stocks like SBI, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank led the way to pull the markets. The Nifty ended higher by 4.6 points at 6980 and Sensex was up by 34 points at 22986. Both the indices ended higher by around 0.015 percent. 

The market breadth remained negative till closing hour, with 892 advances and 1695 declines on the NSE. 

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Idea Cellular was the top gainer for today’s session, closing higher by 8.4%. Among the other gainers were Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, Cairn India and Axis Bank. 

Top 5 Nifty Losers: BHEL ended lower by 13.14% today, followed by BPCL, ONGC, Adani Port and PNB. 

Auto gained a total of 268 points for the day, IT and FMCG were up around 25 points each. However Capital Goods was 354 points lower and Oil & Gas moved 206 points down. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps also saw negative trades, both lower by 75 points and 118 points in the closing session. 

In Asia, the Hang Seng was the top loser and saw a down move of 226 points and Nikkei ended lower by 760 points.

Buzzers: Sun Pharma surged as Q3 profits beat market estimates. The scrip rose by 2.04% and closed above the technical level of Rs 845. If it holds these gains, it may reach a level of upto Rs 860/870 in the next few trading sessions. 

Nifty Futures saw a handsome recovery and closed around 7000, and opening in the next trading session will decide further course.
