Amidst volatility indices hold gains, Nifty ends above 7000 mark

The Indian markets witnessed a good up-move on last Friday of February month and managed to hold their gains until closing. Banking and Metals stocks were outperformers of the day. The Sensex ended 178 points higher at 23154; and Nifty moved up 59 points to 7029. Both the indices closed with a positive bias of 0.80 percent.

The advance-decline ratio ended in the negative. On the NSE, 1041 shares closed in green, while 1443 shares remained in the red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Coal India saw the highest gains of 4.2%. Hindalco, Vedanta, SBI and Cairn India were among the others that closed the day higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Bajaj Auto remained the strongest loser today, closing down by 3.6%, followed by Hero Motocorp, Lupin, Bharti Airtel and ACC.
The sectors all ended in the green. The Bankex index gained 232 points, Metals were up 110 points, FMCG was 74 points higher and IT was up 50 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps ended on a mixed note.
The Asian markets closed on a positive note. Hang Seng was the top gainer, up by 475 points and Nikkei gained 48 points. Shanghai Composite and Taiwan Weighted also ended in the green.
Buzzer: Coal India surged by 4% today to Rs 311. The stock saw swing moves after it broke the technical level of Rs 300. If it continues with the current scenario, it may see 330/345 levels ahead.
The Nifty index closed above the 7000 mark today, this level will act as a pivotal level during the budget session.
