Choppy day, ends on a flat note

The Indian markets witnessed volatile trades in last trading session of first week of May. Indices recovered from day’s low, though it closed with a nominal loss. Auto and Consumer Durables were the key gainers, while Healthcare and Capital Goods also saw some profit booking. The Nifty ended with nominal loss of 2 points to close at 7733 and Sensex ended down by 33 points at 25228.

Auto and Consumer Durables were the key gainers, while Healthcare and Capital Goods also saw some profit booking. The Nifty ended with nominal loss of 2 points to close at 7733 and Sensex ended down by 33 points at 25228.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side in the closing session. On the NSE, 1122 shares closed in green; while 1394 shares ended the day in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: GAIL closed the day as the top gainer, up by 4.95%. BHEL, Tata Power, Eicher Motors and Asian Paints were the others that ended on a higher note.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Dr Reddy's Labs closed the day as the top loser, down by 2.1%, followed by Wipro, Adani Ports, HCL Tech and Tech Mahindra.

On the sectoral front 4 of 13 sectors closed in the red. Auto and Consumer Durables ended as a top gainer for the day, up by around 110 points and 81 points respectively. Oil & Gas and Bankex indices were up by 63 points and 30 points respectively. Mid-Caps was up by 40 points and Small-Caps was down by 21 points. However Healthcare and Capital Goods saw some profit booking trade down by 132 points and 72 points respectively.

In the Asian markets, Hang Seng closed down by 339 points. Nikkei ended lower by 40 points. Shanghai Composite and KOSPI ended on a negative note too.

Buzzers: GAIL the stock surged by 4.9 percent to close above the technical level of Rs 380. If it continues with the current momentum, it may touch the level of Rs 400 soon.

The Nifty Future consolidates in the narrow range around 7700-7750. On the upper side, Nifty has immediate hurdle at 7770, and the lower side 7690 will be the vital support ahead.
