Bears lead the way; banks hammered

The Indian markets witnessed heavy profit booking, especially after mid-session. Apart from FMCG and Oil & gas, all the sectoral indices closed in red territory. The Sensex fell 205 points and ended at 27710. The Nifty made deep dives ending down by 55 points at 8510 level. Both the indices closed down more than 0.65 per cent each.
The Indian markets witnessed heavy profit booking, especially after mid-session. Apart from FMCG and Oil & gas, all the sectoral indices closed in red territory. The Sensex fell 205 points and ended at 27710. The Nifty made deep dives ending down by 55 points at 8510 level. Both the indices closed down more than 0.65 per cent each.
The advance decline ratio ended on the negative side at the closing buzz. 16 stocks closed with green mark whereas, 35 stocks closed in red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: ACC was top gainer gain with 4.4% followed by Ultracemco, Ambuja Cement, IndusInd Bank and Asian Paints.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Axis Bank was top loser with loss of 3.8% followed by Bank of Baroda, Power Grid, Kotak Bank and SBI.
On the sectoral front, 11 out of the 13 sectors ended in the red. Bankex sector was top loser, down by 370 points. Auto, Capital Goods and Healthcare sector also were down around 150 points each. Mid-caps and Small-Caps also were down by 23 points to 17 points each. While FMCG and Oil & Gas closed in positive territory.
The Asian markets were quoting positive. Nikkei closed in green, up by 128 points. While Hong Kong’s Hang-Seng was up by 118 points. Taiwan and Shanghai Composite also closed in positive territory.
In Europe, FTSE opened down by 28 points, DAX opened 16 points lower, and CAC opened 17 points lower.
Derivative Analysis
The Nifty July futures sustained above 8500 mark at closing, indicating vital supports on the lower level of 8460/8420.
