SEBI introduces option trading in commodities market

Securities Exchange Board of India is certainly on a reforms spree, after refurbishing the corporate bond market, the market regulator has come up with new reforms in the commodity market.

Securities Exchange Board of India is certainly on a reforms spree, after refurbishing the corporate bond market, the market regulator has come up with new reforms in the commodity market. SEBI has introduced ‘options trading’ in commodity market. Both the options of agri and non agri commodities are expected to trade in the commodities market.

In the commodities market soya has the mature market in India and the current volumes in the commodities markets come from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The demand to introduce options trading in the commodity market  was coming from the last one year, it is certainly going to increase the corporate participation on the exchange.

Commodity exchanges will have to take prior approval of SEBI before option trading. Detailed guidelines on the same will be issued by SEBI in due course of time.
