Key benchmark indices witnessed a gap-down opening with other Asian stocks, as a new poll showing Republican candidate Donald Trump leading the US presidential race spooked investors.
The S&P 500 briefly slipped below 2,100. Wall Street sold off on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 closing at the lowest level since July 7. There is growing concern over the outcome of the US presidential election and prospects of higher US interest rates.
The S&P BSE Sensex was down 245.5 points or 0.88 per cent at 27,631.11. The Nifty 50 index was currently down 82.2 points or 0.95 per cent at 8544.05. Meanwhile, Shanghai lost 0.49 per cent, Nikkei 225 declined 1.96 per cent and Hang Seng was down 1.34 per cent on intraday basis. The US and European futures are trading with a loss of more than half a per cent on intraday basis.
