Ashok Leyland bucks the trend, M-O-M sales increase 12 per cent

The country’s second largest commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland posted a good set of sales volume for the month of December 2016. The company's total sales volume increased 12.08 per cent to 10,731 units in December as against 9,574 units in November 2016.

The medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment, which constitutes a major part of the company’s sales, saw an increase of 26.76 per cent at 8,782 units in December as compared to 6,982 units in November.

The light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment saw a decline in sales volume at 1,949 units in December representing a decrease of 26.34 per cent compared to 2,646 units in the month of November.

However, going by the year-on-year comparison, both M&HCV and LCV segments declined by 9 and 20 per cent, respectively. The total sales volume too decreased by 12 per cent on a yearly basis in the month of December.

Reacting to the sales numbers, the stock of Ashok Leyland surged by close to 2 per cent in trade to touch an intra-day high of Rs 81.40 before cooling down a bit to trade at Rs 80.50 on the NSE.
