BHEL-ABB partnership bags Rs 1,360 crore UHVDC order

The partnership of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) and ABB has bagged a large order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd for setting up HVDC link between the Western Region Grid (in Raigarh, Chattisgarh) and the Southern Region Grid (in Pugalur, Tamil Nadu).

The scope of BHEL's work is valued at Rs 1,360 crore and the HVDC link will be of 800 kV, 6000 MW .
BHEL has secured a Ultra High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission project contract for the second time. The company, along with ABB, is presently executing the North-East Agra +800 kV, 6000 MW, multi terminal HVDC link, which is expected to be completed by 2019.
BHEL is a government-owned power generation and transmission company. The company has previously executed several HVDC links such as Rihand-Dadri, Chandrapur-Padghe and Ballia-Bhiwandi links.
