Bank employees affiliated to various trade unions have called for a strike on February 7 reacting to the challenges faced while implementing demonetisation and seeking an effective solution for recovering larger bad loans.

Bank employees would gather and hold a dharna at RBI offices on February 2, 2016, succeeded by a mass demonstration on February 7, 2016. Apart from AIBEA, All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) are also joining hands in this strike.
RBI and the government were expected to take steps to solve the problems faced by the banks and public after demonetisation. However, while it is almost the end of January, we still see shortage of cash in bank branches and ATMs. This has caused a a big convenience for the bank customers.
The union is also demanding to publish names of the bank defaulters for loans of Rs 1 crore and more. They also want to ensure full autonomy of RBI in cash management and to acknowledge the employees and officers hard work, compensating them for the additional work and hours they spent throughout 50 days span, post November 8, 2016.
