Airtel contributes 53% in downfall of BSE Telecom index

Even as broader markets opened in the green, ahead of futures and options expiry in Wednesday's trading session, Bharti Airtel is dragging the BSE Telecom index down, the stock solely contributing 53 per cent to the sectoral index losses.

Along with Bharti Airtel, major stocks like Idea Cellular and Tata Communications also opened in red. Bharti Airtel is down by 1.44 per cent, GTL Infra is down by 1.20 per cent, Idea is down by 0.86 per cent and Tata Communications is down by 0.33 per cent, and these heavyweight stocks are dragging the index down to the red zone. 

Swimming against the tide, some stocks are climbing, wherein Stretch is up by 2.29 per cent, ITI is up by 1.56 per cent and MTNL is up by 1.25 per cent.
