NTPC on Friday, has started production from its first coal block allotted in Pakri Barwadih coal mine in Jharkhand and also flagged off first rake of coal.
NTPC has been allotted coal blocks in Pakri Barwadih, Chatti-Bariatu, Kerandari, Dulanga, Talaipalli and Chatti-Bariatu (South), Banai, Bhalumunda and Mandakini B. These mines have geological reserves of 7.15 billion tonnes and production potential of 107 million tonnes p.a.
The Pakri Barwadih mine has an estimated capacity of 15 million tonnes and has been allotted by Central government to fulfil its shortfall in coal supplies to its power stations.
NTPC’s total coal consumption for 2015-16 was 161 million tonnes. The nine coal blocks allotted to the company, having an estimated 107 million tonnes annual capacity, will make the company self-reliant on coal supplies.
The 107 million tonnes of coal will enable the company to generate 20,000 MW of energy. NTPC will become the second largest coal producer in the country once the company operates to full capacity in coal production.
The NTPC stock opened on Friday at Rs 170.1 and fell marginally to close at Rs 169.85.
