The much-awaited announcement regarding the changes in the H1B visa was made by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on March 31, 2017.
The USCIS, a component of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), reversed its earlier order of deeming the entry-level computer programming jobs automatically as a “specialty occupation” — which is one of the basic prerequisites for acquiring H-1B work visa.
The Justice Department alarmed the employers by announcing on April 3, 2017, that the department will closely screen employers for any discrimination against American workers by exhibiting a preference for employing H-1B workers.
The announcement was made after the acceptance of H1-B visa by the government began on April 3, 2017. However, the visa will be issued for the next fiscal year, beginning from October 1, 2017.
