IT department introduces facility to correct errors in PAN, Aadhaar

To up the accuracy of details on permanent account number (PAN) and Aadhaar document, the income tax department launched an online facility to correct errors on the cited documents.

The department has also equipped the e-filing website with a hyperlink to update changes in existing PAN data and apply for new PAN by an Indian or foreign citizen, and another hyperlink to update Aadhaar details, besides linking the biometric identifier Aadhaar with PAN.  
      
From a whooping number of over 25 crore PAN card holders, only about 1.22 crore assessees have Aadhaar-linked PAN in the country, where as, about 111 crore individuls hold Aadhaar card.

Recently, Aadhaar was made mandatory for filing income tax returns and individuals were also directed to link their PAN with Aadhaar to put a check on tax evasion by also eliminating multiple PAN cards.
