Markets gain further ground; Nifty closes near 9450

Tata Steel Ltd was the top Nifty gainer. India's largest steel maker closed higher by 4.5% at Rs 456.45.
Major indices on Monday gained further ground and closed in the green, with almost all the sectoral indices closing in the green, except IT and telecom indices. The BSE consumer durable index closed flat, shedding few points and closing in the red.
Nifty closed at the 9446 level, up by 45 points while Sensex closed at the 30322 level, up by 133 points. The BSE Mid-cap index closed at 15040 level, up by 186 points while the BSE Small-cap index closed at 15,650 level, up by 121 points. Bank Nifty added 150 points in today's trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were the major contributor to the banking index gains.
Tata Steel Ltd was the top Nifty gainer. India's largest steel maker closed higher by 4.5% at Rs 456.45, whereas Aurobindo Pharma stock closed lower by around 1.6% at Rs 613.60.
There were 948 advances, 694 declines, while 321 stocks remained unchanged on the NSE.
BSE Metal index was the top gainer and closed at 11,326.72, up by 265 points or 2.4 per cent. Tata Steel, Hindalco and Vedanta are the major contributors to the Metal index gains.
