All mutual funds are now required to register online

In a bid to improve the ease of doing business, market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) launched an online registration mechanism for mutual funds from June 1, 2017.

In a bid to improve the ease of doing business, market regulator SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) launched an online registration mechanism for mutual funds from June 1, 2017.

The mechanism is expected to make the registration of fund houses with SEBI more convenient and cost effective.

The regulator also decided to operationalise ‘SEBI intermediary portal’ for the entities to submit the mutual funds registration applications online, requiring the applicants to submit relevant documents in physical form for the records.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had mentioned in his 2017-18 Budget speech that the process of registration of financial market intermediaries will be made online by SEBI.
