Equity Mutual Funds Witness Record Inflow in May

Mutual funds are investment vehicles made up of a pool of funds collected from a number of investors. The funds are invested in stocks, bonds and money market instruments, among others.

An inflow of Rs 10790 crore was witnessed by mutual funds of equity segment in the month of May, which is highest in nearly two years. Backing up this huge inflow in the mutual funds was investor optimism and steps taken by mutual fund research houses to create awareness about mutual funds.

May is the 14th consecutive month, witnessing inflows in the equity shares. The mutual funds last witnessed a pull out in March 2016, worth Rs 1370 crore.
 
Backed by strong inflows in May, from the preceding month, the total asset base of equity mutual funds have increased by 2.6%.
