Sensex, Bank Nifty close at all-time high

Broader market indices performed in line with the major indices, but slipped in the red during closing hours.
Benchmark indices inched up on Monday with Nifty closing at 9657, up by 69 points and Sensex closing at its all-time high level at 31,311, up by 255 points. Bank Nifty touched its all-time high level of 23,806. Private bank stocks, including Axis Bank, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank pushed the index to record high level with HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank closing at their fresh 52-week highs.

BSE Mid-cap index closed higher by 0.07% at 14,817, while BSE Small-cap index closed lower by 0.08 points at 15,653.
Hotels stocks were seen rallying on Monday, taking cues from the latest GST council announcement. The GST council on Sunday fixed the tax rate for hotel rooms costing between Rs 2,500 to Rs 7,500 at 18%, while the rate for eat-out restaurants was fixed at 18%, lower than the 28% decided earlier.
