Nifty, Sensex close with marginal losses, Biocon gains over 8%

The key benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex witnessed choppy trading with a bearish undertone in Friday’s trading session. Both the indices closed below their previous day's closing levels. Nifty 50 ended at 9,886.35, down by 5.35 points or 0.05 per cent, whereas, S&P BSE Sensex closed at 32,020.75, down by 16.63 points or 0.05 per cent.     
 
The BSE Mid-cap index ended higher by 0.22 per cent at 15,187.41. However, BSE Small-cap index closed at 15908.01, down by 0.35 per cent. India VIX also closed higher 0.66 per cent at 11.17 . 
 
Aurobindo Pharma, GAIL, ACC, NTPC, Bharti Infratel, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, Bajaj Auto and Cipla were the top gainers in Nifty, while, IOC, TCS, Tata Motors, Wipro, Coal India, HCL Tech, Zee Ltd, IndiaBulls Housing Finance and Tata Steel were the top losers in Nifty.     
 
The newly listed companies including CDSL, AU Small Finance Bank, GTPL Hathway, HUDCO, Tejas Networks and Eris Lifesciences plunged steeply in Friday’s trading session.
 
Most of the BSE indices closed in the red, with S&P BSE IT closing with the highest loss, down by 0.95 per cent at 10051.60 level. Datamatics Global was the top loser in the index, down by nearly 4 per cent.    
 
In the volatile session, S&P BSE Healthcare was the top gainer among BSE indices. Biocon Ltd extended gains, closing with a gain of over 8 per cent, while Aurobindo Pharma, Strides Shasun and Syngene International also closed with over 4 per cent gains.
