Nifty, Sensex close at day-high, Realty stocks surge

Bank Nifty closed at 24,316, higher by 342 points or 1.43 per cent. The index saw State Bank of India surging on SBI Chairman, Arundhati Bhattacharya’s media address in which she spoke about the need of higher transparency in financial statements of the steel companies.
BSE Mid-cap index ended up by 1.38 per cent at 15,131 level. Whereas, BSE Small-cap index ended higher by 1.18 per cent at 15,570. India VIX ended lower by 6.5 per cent at 13.18.
There were 1,109 advances, 542 declines and 311 unchanged stocks on NSE reflecting positive sentiment in the market.
Indiabulls Housing Finance, Bharti Airtel and Tata Steel were the top gainers on Nifty, while Tech Mahindra, Tata Power and Bharti Infratel lost the most on Nifty.
BSE Realty was the top index gainer among all the sectoral indices on BSE, with Indiabulls Real Estate ended with a gain of 6.47 per cent. While, DLF ended higher by 5.31 per cent and HDIL ended higher by 3.11 per cent.
PSU Bank stocks were also not lagging behind with Allahabad Bank closing with a gain of 3.97 per cent, Union Bank with 3.52 per cent and Punjab National Bank with 3.12 per cent.
