Nifty ends near 10,000 mark, auto stocks buzz

Indian Benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex traded with a positive undertone, with Nifty closing near the 10,000 mark. Nifty ended at 9,974.40 level, up by 0.57 per cent, Sensex ended at 31,892.23 level, higher by 0.51 per cent.
 
In the broader markets, S&P BSE SmallCap ended at 16117.03 level, higher by 0.78 per cent and S&P BSE MidCap index closed at 15686.66 level, up by 0.95 per cent. India VIX ended at 11.76 level, lower by 1.58 per cent.  
 
Nifty Pharma index closed at 9,071, higher by 212 points or 2.39 per cent outperforming the major and broader indices in the market. Dr Reddy’s Lab became the top gainer of the index, closing with gains of 9.46 per cent at Rs 2,212, whereas Divi’s Lab ended higher by 2.02 per cent.
 
Bank Nifty ended in the positive territory, higher by 115 points or 0.48 per cent. IDFC Bank gained the most in the index, closing at Rs 57.1, higher by 4.1 per cent.
 
Friday’s trade witnessed buzzing auto stocks on their August 2017 sales data. Nifty Auto closed at 10,823 level, up by 1.99 per cent with Ashok Leyland as the top gainer in the index. Ashok Leyland ended at Rs 113, up by 5.51 per cent.
