Markets trading higher, all indices in green

As expected in our morning update, the Indian markets opened in the positive territory today. The Sensex is trading up by 154 points at 17758 and Nifty is up 45 points at 5370.
As expected in our morning update, the Indian markets opened in the positive territory today. At present, both the indices are trading in the green, with the Sensex up 154 points at 17758 and Nifty up 45 points at 5370. All the sectoral indices are trading in the green zone, with Realty in the lead, up by 3.26%. Other sectors like Metals, Bankex, Capital Goods, etc. are also trading higher.
Other Asian markets are also trading in the green after a good set of US job data, which further led to positive sentiments in the markets. The Nikkei is trading up by more than 1%, while Hang Seng and Shanghai are also trading higher up 0.51% and 0.39% respectively.
Back home, realty heavyweight, DLF, is among the leading index gainers, up 3.80% to Rs 2390.05. Metals stocks are also shining, with Hindalco Industries, Sterlite Industries, Tata Steel etc. up in the range of 1.79%-2.69%. Banking stocks like SBI and ICICI Bank are up 3.41% and 1.85% respectively. Other stocks like ITC, Infosys, Reliance Industries, etc. are trading marginally in the green zone. The losers list is quite limited. GAIL is the leading index loser, down 1.07% to Rs 386.70. Other stocks like Tata Power, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel are down marginally in the red zone.
Power Finance Corporation (PFC) is up 3.96% to Rs 194.10 after a strong set of Q3 FY12 numbers was declared. The company's net profit increased by 68% to Rs 1108 cr. Piramal Helathcare is up 1.85% to Rs 446.40 on the news that the company is to acquire 5.5% stake in Vodafone India.
Other stocks that are going to announce their Q3 FY12 numbers today include Hindustan Unilever, Glaxo Smithkline Consumer, Jubilant, Adani Power and Dena Bank. These stocks could be volatile on the back of their numbers and management guidance.
The market breadth, which indicates the overall health of the market, is strong. On the BSE, 1661 shares rose and 544 shares declined. 79 shares remained unchanged.
We expect the markets to remain volatile for the day with a positive bias.
