Markets Close 0.6% Down On Profit Booking

The Indian markets have closed this week on a marginally positive note. BHEL emerged as the top gainer among the Sensex stocks.

The Indian markets have closed the day in negatives. The markets will be closed for next two days, so this was the last day of the week. In this week, the markets surged for the first two days and declined on the last day. Overall, the Sensex has surged by 81 points while Nifty has surged by 27 points in the week, giving a marginally positive ending of the week.

The Nikkei traded in negatives for the whole day, closing with 2.29% losses.

All the key European indices, which opened in the red, have widened their losses at this hour.

Dow Jones Futures is currently trading 0.69% or 90 points down at 13042, indicating a negative sentiment in the US market.

Back home, the Power index traded in positives for the whole day on the back of the Presidential directive to Coal India to sign the FSAs, closing up by 0.42%. CD was also up by 0.27%. All the indices were down, with Metals and Realty down by over 1% each.

Among the Sensex stocks, BHEL was the top gainer, up by 3.54%. Yesterday, the company announced its FY12 flash results, where it reported 14% growth in its topline and bottomline. Its order inflow, however, declined by 63%. Hindalco was up 0.99%. Other stocks like Maruti Suzuki, ONGC, NTPC, ITC and Hero MotoCorp were marginally up. Jindal Steel, GAIL India, Bharti Airtel, Sterlite Industries, ICICI Bank, Cipla, DLF, HDFC, M&M and HUL were down by more than 1% each.

In other stocks, Bajaj Finserv was up by 5.57% and Pantaloon Retail was up by 4.24%. Apollo Tyres, Max India, Wockhardt, etc. were also trading up.

Overall, the market breadth remained mixed today. Out of a total of 3246 stocks traded on a BSE, 1569 advanced, 1547 declined and 130 remained unchanged.
