Dull Trading Day Draws Curtains On 2012

The benchmark indices for the Indian equities market witnessed an unexciting second half of the trading session. Nifty witnessed range-bound trades and managed to hold on to the levels of 5900, closing down by 3 points at 5905. The Sensex ended down by 27 points at 19,418. Both indices were lower in the range of 0.06%-0.14%.

The market breadth for the day was in the positive zone. On the NSE, 801 shares have advanced and 627 shares have declined.

Top 5 NSE Gainers: Punjab National Bank emerged as the top gainer on the NSE, up by 3.39%, followed by DLF, ACC, GAIL and Bharat Petroleum.

Top 5 NSE Losers: HCL Technologies figured among the top losers on the index (down 1.21%) along with others like IDFC, Tata Consultancy, ITC and L&T.

8 out of the 13 sectors ended the day positive. Realty, PSU and Power saw the highest gains, up in range of 0.40%-0.88%. CG and FMCG closed in the negative zone, down in range of 0.23%-0.45%.

The peers Asian markets saw lacklustre trades. China’s Shanghai Composite ended up by 1.58% and Hang Seng was down by 0.04%.

In the European markets, CAC 40 is trading up by 0.39%, whereas FTSE 100 is in the negatives, down by 0.47%.

Buzzers: Tata Power hit a day’s high of Rs 110.70 and a low of Rs 108.75. The stock closed up by 1%, having gained on news of the company’s expansion plans.

Kingfisher Airlines was down by 2.30% at Rs 14.90 at the end of the day’s trades. The stock touched an intraday high of Rs 15.60 and a low of Rs 14.60, witnessing selling pressure over the buzz that its license may get cancelled by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
