Markets End Weak, Realty Slips 2%

The Indian markets turned wobbly in the last hour of trade. The Realty and Bankex stocks dragged the markets down. At the end of the day, Nifty closed down at 5872 and Sensex ended down at 19,416. Both the indices ended down in the range of 0.62% to 0.78%.

The Indian markets turned wobbly in the last hour of trade. The Realty and Bankex stocks dragged the markets down. At the end of the day, Nifty closed down by 36 points at 5872 and Sensex ended down by 153 points at 19,416. Both the indices ended down in the range of 0.62% to 0.78%.

The advance-decline ratio ended on a negative note at the end of the day. On the NSE, 962 shares ended in red and 457 shares ended in green. 

Top 5 NSE Gainers: Siemens ended as the top gainer on NSE, up by 6.54%, followed by Asian Paints, Lupin, Mahindra & Mahindra and Ranbaxy Labs.

Top 5 NSE Losers: DLF ended as the top loser on NSE, down by 4.29%, followed by ICICI Bank, Tata Motors, Jaiprakash Associates and GAIL.

Most of the sectors ended down. Consumer Durables, IT and Teck ended up in the range of 0.25%-2.25%. Realty and Bankex witnessed a selling pressure and ended down in the range of 1.67%-2.82%.  

The European markets edged lower. CAC 40 is trading down by 0.54%, FTSE 100 is trading lower by 0.40% and DAX is trading lower by 0.14%.

The Asian markets ended mixed. Nikkei 225 ended higher by 1.43%, followed by Shanghai Composite and Strait Times. On the flip side, KOSPI ended lower by 0.79%, followed by Hang Seng and Taiwan Weighted. 

Buzzers: BOC India which supplies more than 20,000 gases and mixtures to several industries, closed up by 20% on an upper circuit in today’s trade. Its trading volumes jumped by more than 12 times in today’s trade.  

The shares of cable operators such as Den Networks, Hathway Cable and Datacom rallied by more 2% in today’s trade. TV broadcasters and multi-system operators are gearing up to meet the deadline for mandatory switching from analogue to digital services in the National Capital Region and other 30-odd cities nationwide.  

Nifty has given a close below 5880; going ahead, it has a strong support around the levels of 5800.
