Markets See Some Recovery, Realty Slumps Over 2%

The Indian markets reversed direction and picked up some momentum in the last hour of trade today, but failed to close in the green. The Nifty closed with marginal losses of 7 points at 6104 and Sensex closed was down by 13 points at 20,147.

The Indian markets reversed direction and picked up some momentum in the last hour of trade today, but failed to close in the green. The Nifty closed with marginal losses of 7 points at 6104 and Sensex closed was down by 13 points at 20,147. Both the indices closed lower in the range of 0.07%-0.11%.

The advance-decline ratio ended on the negative side. On the NSE, 769 shares closed in the red and 522 shares were in green.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Sun Pharma ended as the top gainer for the day, up by 6.98%. Tata Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Cipla and Coal India.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Jaiprakash Associates ended the day down by 3.49%, followed by Ranbaxy Labs, Grasim Industries, Tata Steel and Jindal Steel & Power.

Most of the sectoral indices ended in the red. The Realty index closed over 2% lower, followed by Metals and Bankex. Healthcare and FMCG closed in the green.

The Asian markets ended on a mixed note. Taiwan Weighted closed higher by 0.90% and Nikkei 225 was up by 0.10%. The Hang Seng closed lower by 1.64%, followed by Straits Times.

The European markets are currently trading lower. FTSE 100 has dipped 1.17% to 6683 and CAC 40 is lower by 39 points. The DAX is trading up by 0.95% at 8401.

Buzzers: HDIL has tanked more than 7% to Rs 47.70 after reporting a consolidated net loss of Rs 280 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2013 due to an exceptional loss of Rs 442 crore pertaining to the Mumbai International Airport slum rehabilitation project.

Hero MotoCorp surged up for the second day in a row. The stock opened at Rs 1761, registered a high of Rs 1795.60 and closed up by 2.21% at Rs 1788. It has seen good momentum in a sluggish market.

The markets have witnessed good recovery in the last hour of trade. Tomorrow’s trading session will be volatile due to expiry of the May series.
