Nifty Closes Below 5600, USD Hits All-Time High

The Indian markets saw flat trades till mid-market but finally closed on a negative note. Nifty was down by 20 points to close the day at 5588 and Sensex closed at 18,552, down by 77 points.

The Indian markets saw flat trades till mid-market but finally closed on a negative note. Nifty was down by 20 points to close the day at 5588 and Sensex closed at 18,552, down by 77 points. Both the indices ended in red by 0.36% and 0.41% respectively.

The advance–decline ratio ended on a negative side at the end of day. On the NSE, 487 shares closed in green, while 889 shares ended the day in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Hero MotoCorp closed the day with gains of 3.6%, followed by GAIL, TCS, Asian Paints and Power Grid Corporation.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: Bharti Airtel ended the day as the top Nifty loser, down by 5.9%, followed by M&M, Ranbaxy Labs, Kotak Mahindra and IndusInd Bank.

In the sectoral pack, 10 out of the 13 sectors ended on a negative note. Auto is the top loser, down by 188 points, Bankex and Metals are down by 131 points and 97 points respectively, Heathcare and Consumer Durables are down by 95 points and 70 points correspondingly. IT ended on a positive note, up by 99 points.

The Asian markets closed on a mixed note. Nikkei closed down by 135 points. Hang Seng ended on a positive note, up by 482 points, while Shanghai Composite, Straits Times, and Taiwan too ended on a positive note.

Buzzers: Rajesh Exports announced its FY14 sales and net profit growth forecast at 10 per cent from the previous 25 per cent. The stock is down by more than 3 per cent. It made a low near its 52-week low (Rs 110).

L&T Finance Holdings jumped by over 3 per cent as the company is considering applying for a bank license on Friday.

Nifty was not able to close above the 5600 level. Looking at the closing levels, it can be said that tomorrow will be the expiry day and the market may trade with a negative bias.
