The Indian markets saw flat trade till the mid-trading session and the Nifty closed on a negative note, down by 42 points at 5816. The Sensex closed at 19,293, down by 145 points.
The Indian markets saw flat trade till the mid-trading session and the Nifty closed on a negative note, down by 42 points at 5816. The Sensex closed at 19,293, down by 145 points. Both the indices ended in red by 0.72% and 0.72% respectively.
The advance–decline ratio ended on the negative side. On the NSE, 1600 shares closed in green, while 1722 shares ended the day in red.
Top Nifty Gainers: Lupin closed the day with gains of 3.3% as the top Nifty gainer, followed by HCL Tech, Kotak Mahindra Bank, NMDC and UltraTech Cement.
Top Nifty Losers: BPCL ended the day as the top Nifty loser, down by 3.5%, followed by Bank of Baroda, M&M, Hindalco and Cairn India.
In the sectoral pack, 9 of the 13 sectors ended on a negative note. Auto is the top loser, down by 159 points, followed by Oil & Gas and Capital Goods are down by 158 points and 91 points respectively. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps ended on a negative note. However, Consumer Durables and IT closed in green, up by 122 points and 41 points respectively.
The Asian markets closed on a mixed note. Hang Seng was the top gainer, up by 221 points. The Nikkei market closed down by 56 points. Shanghai Composite and Straits Times ended on a positive note.
Buzzers: IndusInd Bank announced its April-June Q1 earnings by reporting 42% YoY hike in its net profit at Rs 335 crore. However, the stock was down by 1.5% and made a low at Rs 490.
Nifty managed to close above 5800, but could not cross the level of 5895.This is a very dicey situation for the next trading session.
