Trades Volatile In Closing Session

The indices saw renewed selling pressure after mid-session. The Nifty ended the day on the lower side, down 64 points at 6253. Sensex was down by 287 points at 20950. Apart from Mid-Caps and Small-Caps, all the other sectoral indices closed the day in negatives
The indices saw renewed selling pressure, as a result of which, the markets witnessed a deep cut after mid-session. Heavyweights like ITC, ICICI Bank and TCS dragged Nifty to the lower side, and the index ended the day 64 points lower at 6253. Sensex was down by 287 points at 20950. Both the indices ended negative in the range of 1.02%-1.35%.
On the NSE, 1660 shares closed in the green, while 1563 shares ended the day in red, making for a positive advance-decline ratio.Top 5 Nifty Gainers: BPCL closed with the highest gains on the index, up by 2.4%. NMDC, DLF, Asian Paints and JP Associates were among the other stocks that ended the day higher.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: ITC closed lower by 3.5%, followed by ICICI Bank, Power Grid Corp, Dr, Reddy’s Labs and Sun Pharma.
Apart from Mid-Caps and Small-Caps, all the other sectoral indices closed the day in the negative zone. FMCG, Healthcare and Bankex were hammered by more than 150 points. Capital Goods and Consumer Durables were lower by 80 points, while Metals and Oil & Gas also closed in the red. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps closed in higher by 54 points and 34 points respectively.
In the Asian markets, Hang Seng closed 150 points lower and Taiwan was 91 points down. The Nikkei index ended 23 points higher.
Buzzer: The scrip of ICICI Bank turned volatile after mid-session and made an intraday low of Rs 1096. It has closed below its technical level of Rs 1100. If it does not manage to hold this level, it may touch the Rs 1050 level ahead.
Nifty Future may see range-bound trades going ahead. 6200 will be the major support for the next few trading sessions.
