Nifty Sluggish, HDFC Dips 3%

After a negative opening, the markets were hovering in a range in mid-session. The Bankex and Consumer Durables indices extended their losses. At present, Nifty is down by 31 points at 6155 and Sensex has dropped 104 points to trade at 20717.
After a negative opening, the markets were hovering in a range in mid-session. At present, Nifty is down by 31 points at 6155 and Sensex has dropped 104 points to trade at 20717. The indices are trading lower between 0.66%-0.68%.
The advance-decline ratio is still on the negative side. On the NSE, 1478 shares are in the green and 1727 shares are trading in the red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: HCL Tech is leading the gainers list, up by 1.9%. Other stocks trading higher include Tata Steel, Lupin, Tata Motors and Sesa Sterlite.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: PNB is down by 3.5% so far, followed by HDFC, Axis Bank, ACC and ONGC.
The sectoral indices have moved into the negative zone. The Bankex and Consumer Durables indices extended their losses, down by more than 100 points each. Auto and Capital Goods are down by 50 points each. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps are also trading down by 21 points and 15 points respectively. Healthcare is the only sector in the green, up by 37 points.
The Asian markets continued to trade in negatives in mid-session as well. The Hang Seng market has lost 141 points, and the Nikkei is down by 138 points. KOSPI and Shanghai Composite have also moved lower.
Buzzer: Maruti Suzuki has lost around 3% and made an intraday low of Rs 1582. The stock is trading below its major support of Rs 1600. If it closes below this level, it may continue with this downward momentum.
Nifty Futures is below the technical level of 6200, indicating some more weakness below this level.
