Indices Turn Volatile At Closing Hour

Bulls and bears locked horns in the market after mid-session today. The indices dipped and then made an unexpected recovery. Nifty finally closed 3 points lower at 5995 and Sensex was down 11 points at 20217.
The Indian markets witnessed a tussle between the bulls and bears after mid-session today. The indices took a dip and then made an unexpected recovery from the lower end. Nifty finally closed 3 points lower at 5995 and Sensex was down 11 points at 20217. Both the indices ended lower in the range of 0.06%.
The advance-decline ratio on the NSE was on the negative side, with 1542 shares closing in the green and 1705 shares in the red.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Cairn India closed higher by 3.09% today, followed by ONGC, Tata Steel, GAIL and ACC.
Top 5 Nifty Losers: Sesa Sterlite ended the day 2.7% lower. Other stocks in losses included Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, IDFC and UltraTech Cement.
The sectoral indices closed on a mixed note. Capital Goods remained higher by 107 points, Oil & Gas was up 58 points and Healthcare gained 13 points. However, the Auto index was down by 144 points. Metals, FMCG and Bankex also closed lower by around 30 points.
In the Asian markets, Hang Seng gained 115 points today. Nikkei and Taiwan Weighted were up by around 15 pointseach. Shanghai Composite remained in the red till closing.
Buzzer: ONGC witnessed a good amount of buying today. The stock made an intraday high of Rs 279 and closed around the higher level. If the scrip opens above this level in the next trading session, it may touch higher levels.
Nifty Futures took vital support at 5980 and closed above 6000, indicating good strength at the lower level.
