The bulls showed off their brawn since the morning session. Some profit booking was seen at the higher levels, but this can be fairly expected. The indices managed to hold their gains till closing, with Nifty 104 points higher at 6363 and Sensex up by 329 points at 21329. Both indices closed positive by over 1.5%.

The advance-decline ratio on the NSE, though, was in some negatives. 1576 shares closed in the green and 1690 shares were in red.

Top Nifty Gainers: DLF closed higher by 5.9% in today’s trades, followed by Sesa Sterlite, ICICI Bank, L&T and Ambuja Cements.

Top Nifty Losers: Jindal Steel ended the day lower by 6.2%. Cipla, Lupin, Cairn India and Tata Steel were among the other stocks that closed in negatives.

Almost all the other sectoral indices closed on a positive note. Bankex and Capital Goods provided good support, up by 390 points and 320 points respectively. Both Auto and Oil & Gas also moved higher by around 150 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps have remained in positives. Consumer Durables was the only index that has closed in the red.In the peer Asian markets, Nikkei was the top gainer for the day, up by 350 points. Hang Seng also saw gains of 70 points. Taiwan Weighted, KOSPI and Shanghai Composite all closed on a positive note.

Buzzer: Jindal Steel & Power witnessed heavy selling in today’s session on poor sentiment, as its Chairman, Naveen Jindal, is a member of India's Parliament representing the Congress party, which took a heavy drubbing in the recent state elections. The stock broke all its crucial supports and closed below the technical level of Rs 270. If it continues to remain below this level, it may drop to the Rs 250 mark in the next few sessions.

Nifty Futures is indicating a bullish signal so long as it remains above the technical level of 6300 on a closing basis.
