Indices Nearly 1% Lower

After a gap-down opening today, the indices extended their losses in mid-session. Nifty is down by 60 points at 6176 and Sensex is 180 points lower at 20740. All the sectors are currently in the red.

After a gap-down opening today, the indices extended their losses in mid-session. Nifty is down by 60 points at 6176 and Sensex is 180 points lower at 20740. The indices have moved down in the range of 0.98%-1%.

The advance-decline ratio on the NSE is on the negative side at this hour, with 1199 shares in the green and 1935 shares in red.

Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Tata Motors is leading the gainers list, up by 2.5%. The other stocks trading higher include Wipro, M&M, Coal India and Bharti Airtel.

Top 5 Nifty Losers: JP Associate is down by 4.94% so far, followed by IndusInd Bank, BHEL, BHEL and ICICI Bank.

All the sectoral indices are under selling pressure. Bankex is down by 280 points and Capital Goods has lost 250 points. Oil & Gas and Metals have both dropped by 90 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps are also trading negative, down by 73 points and 51 points respectively.

The Asian markets remained strong in mid-session as well. Nikkei is up by 61 points, while Hang Seng and Taiwan are both 20 points higher. However, KOSPI and Shanghai Composite are in losses.

Buzzer: ICICI Bank has lost around 4% on the bourses and made an intraday low of Rs 1080. The stock is trading below its major support level of Rs 1100. If it closes above this level, it may move up to Rs 1060 in the next 3-4 trading sessions.

Nifty Futures is also trading lower. The current trend indicates that the index may close below 6200.
