Downfall Continues, Markets In Red

After witnessing an optimistic start in the morning, Indian markets swayed into the red zone. Nifty is down by 21 points at 5979 and Sensex is 75 points lower at 20104. On the positive note though, the Indian rupee opened at Rs 62.42 higher by 10 paise against the US dollar.
The Markets extended previous session’s losses, witnessing heavy selling over pressure across the tracking weakness in Asian stocks. As a result, the Nifty is currently down by 21 points at 5979 and Sensex is 75 points lower at 20140. Both indices opened down in the range of 0.35%. The rupee opened at Rs 62.42 per dollar today higher by 10 paise as against yesterday’s closing value of Rs 62.52 a dollar.
The advance-decline ratio is positive in the morning session. On the NSE, 1810 shares are trading in gains and 1367 shares are down.
Top 5 Nifty Gainers: Tata Steel is the top gainer for the morning session, up by 1.40%, followed by M&M, Wipro, TCS and Sun Pharma .
Top 5 Nifty Losers: ITC is the strongest loser so far, down by 2.03%. NTPC, Tata Motors, BHEL and NMDC are among the others trading lower.
9 out of 13 sectoral indices are in negatives. FMCG was down by 74 points in the morning session. Oil and Gas is down by 56 points. Mid-Caps and Small-Caps are positive and trading up by 38 points and 46 points respectively.
Asian shares are trading on mixed note. The Nikkei market is the highest gainer for the morning session, up by 207 points. Hang Seng is down by 17 points.
Buzzers: Tech Mahindra, rose 4.06% at Rs 1840.90 and making an intraday high of Rs 1849.90 on strong Q3FY14 results.
The Nifty is trading at 5999 level in the opening session. If it sustains below this level, it may move to 5960.
