Pre-Market Update at 7:40 AM: GIFT Nifty indicated a firm start for domestic equities, trading at 22,839.50 at 6:59 AM IST on October 23, 2026. The index was 151.85 points, or 0.67 per cent, above the previous Nifty 50 close of 22,687.65. The positive opening indication follows a weak domestic session and comes against a challenging global backdrop. Rising crude oil prices, renewed Middle East security concerns and a sharp decline in U.S. technology shares may keep investor risk appetite guarded during the session.

Escalating conflict concerns in the Middle East have kept global risk appetite fragile and lifted oil prices. Regional security concerns in the Red Sea-Saudi region also remain under watch following reports of an attack near Zuqar Island and an earlier strike on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. These developments are relevant for India because higher oil prices can add to imported inflation and current-account pressures. Oil marketing companies, aviation, Logistics, paints, chemicals and other crude-consuming businesses could remain in focus, while upstream energy companies may also attract attention.
