Vedanta Oil and Gas Share Price Surges 10%: Here’s Why the Stock Is Rallying
Vedanta Oil and Gas reported a 34 per cent YoY rise in Q2FY27 EBITDA to Rs 1,393 crore, aided by better realisations and lower costs, despite a 19 per cent decline in gross operated production.FY27 production guidance stands at 73-77 kboepd, with capex projected at USD 320 million to USD 340 million.
✨ Key Takeaways
Vedanta Oil and Gas is seeking to arrest production decline at its mature Rajasthan and Ravva assets while building a longer-term exploration pipeline. The company reported a 34 per cent YoY increase in earnings before interest, Tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) to Rs 1,393 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2026, helped by higher price realisations and cost optimisation.
Quarterly revenue increased 7 per cent YoY to Rs 2,486 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded to 56 per cent. Profit after tax (PAT) from continuing operations was Rs 746 crore, compared with a loss of Rs 152 crore in the preceding quarter. Sequentially, EBITDA rose 13 per cent even as revenue slipped 1 per cent, aided by a 94 per cent reduction in exploration costs written off and a 37 per cent decline in finance cost.
For the first half of FY27, revenue rose 8 per cent YoY to Rs 4,993 crore and EBITDA increased 14 per cent to Rs 2,625 crore. Operating cash flow reached Rs 2,230 crore, against capital expenditure of Rs 1,220 crore. The company ended September with near-zero net debt and liquid investments, including cash and cash equivalents, of Rs 2,639 crore.
However, output remains the key operating challenge. Average daily gross operated production declined 19 per cent YoY and 7 per cent QoQ to 72.2 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboepd). Rajasthan output fell 15 per cent YoY to 59.9 kboepd, while Ravva production improved sequentially to 8.1 kboepd. The company said well interventions, artificial-lift optimisation and low-pressure operations at Ravva are supporting recovery from mature fields.
Vedanta Oil and Gas also notified three discoveries in the Rajasthan block during the first half, spanning deep-gas and shallow-oil reservoirs. Their commercial potential is yet to be established. It was awarded two offshore blocks in the Krishna Godavari Basin under the DSF IV bid round, although transfer of participating interests following the demerger remains subject to regulatory application and approval. FY27 production guidance stands at 73-77 kboepd, with capex projected at USD 320 million to USD 340 million.
As of 9:20 AM on October 30, 2026, Vedanta Oil and Gas shares were trading at Rs 30.57, up 9.69 per cent from the previous close of Rs 27.87. The stock was about 31 per cent below its 52-week high of Rs 44.54, while remaining above its 52-week low of Rs 27.18. The company had a market capitalisation of Rs 10,984.3 crore at the stated price.
What This Means for Investors
The quarter demonstrates that tighter cost control, lower exploration write-offs and improved price realisations can protect profitability even when volumes weaken. Strong operating cash generation and near-zero net debt provide financial capacity for the Rajasthan programme, offshore acreage and planned FY27 capital expenditure. The three Rajasthan discoveries could strengthen the medium-term resource base, but their commercial viability will determine their eventual contribution.
The result is supportive for the company’s financial resilience, but the investment case remains mixed because production of 72.2 kboepd was below the lower end of its 73-77 kboepd FY27 guidance range. Sustained recovery in Rajasthan and Ravva will be important for maintaining earnings visibility. The largest uncertainty is whether optimisation efforts can arrest mature-field decline while exploration discoveries and newly awarded offshore blocks move through appraisal, regulatory transfer and development stages.
