Elara Securities retains an Accumulate rating on Britannia Industries but lowers its target price to Rs 6,250 from Rs 6,975. The brokerage expects growth to improve from Q2 FY27, although it has reduced estimates after Q4 FY26 revenue fell short of expectations.
The revised target is based on a 50 times March 2028E price-to-earnings multiple, reduced from 55 times as the valuation is rolled forward by a quarter. Britannia Industries is trading near its five-year average price-to-earnings multiple of 50 times.
Britannia Industries reported consolidated Q4 FY26 net sales of Rs 47,189 million, up 6.5 per cent year on year but 2.4 per cent below Elara's estimate of Rs 48,331 million. Domestic volume growth was 5.5 per cent. The quarter began well, with growth of around 9 per cent in January and February, before demand moderated in March because of supply disruptions.
| Q4 FY26 metric | Reported | Year-on-year change | Comparison with Elara estimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Net sales | Rs 47,189 million | Up 6.5% | 2.4% below estimate of Rs 48,331 million |
| Gross profit | Rs 19,900 million | Up 11.9% | Not stated |
| Gross margin | 42.1% | Expanded 203 basis points | Not stated |
| EBITDA | Rs 8,529 million | Up 5.9% | 7.0% below estimate |
| EBITDA margin | 18.1% | Declined 9 basis points | Not stated |
| Adjusted profit after tax | Rs 6,783 million | Up 21.1% | 2.8% above estimate |
Gross profit and gross margin benefited from stable commodity trends and operational efficiency. Britannia maintained healthy inventory cover for wheat and palm oil, although milk prices, fuel and laminates remained inflationary. EBITDA margin declined as elevated brand investment and overheads outweighed the improvement in gross margin. Adjusted profit after tax was supported by a lower effective tax rate of 13.1 per cent.
Elara attributes the domestic weakness principally to dual pricing in Rs 5-10 packs following the GST transition and increased competition in the wholesale channel. Around 75 per cent of Britannia Industries' business is generated through B2C channels, which remained resilient and posted double-digit growth, while the wholesale channel declined. Portfolios outside the affected Rs 5-10 packs continued to grow at strong double-digit rates.
The international business was affected by supply-chain disruption in Oman and Dubai following the West Asia conflict. Management has shifted manufacturing from Oman to Mundra to improve export agility towards North America. Management expects domestic-demand and international-business disruption to stabilise by the end of Q1 FY27.
The company is pursuing calibrated price increases and grammage adjustments in affected packs. Britannia Industries' eCommerce contribution increased to around 6 per cent of domestic sales. Organised trade remained strong, with eCommerce growth of 50-60 per cent and modern-trade growth of 15-16 per cent.
Management reiterated its focus on innovation-led growth, adjacency expansion and evaluation of inorganic opportunities. Elara considers the strength of organised channels and these strategic initiatives to be important potential growth drivers.
Elara cut its FY27E and FY28E revenue estimates by 3.2 per cent each. EBITDA estimates were reduced by 3.7 per cent and 3.3 per cent, while EPS estimates were lowered by 3.8 per cent and 3.7 per cent, respectively.
| Financial year | Revenue | EBITDA | EPS |
|---|---|---|---|
| FY27E | Rs 211,597 million | Rs 39,204 million | Rs 113.5 |
| FY28E | Rs 230,020 million | Rs 43,087 million | Rs 125.0 |
