The company said this structure is intended to create operational and technological synergies while positioning the refining and qualification process closer to the customer base. Semiconductor materials require ultra-high levels of purity, with certain niche materials requiring parts-per-billion purity levels, making specialised processing and stringent quality control critical.
The strategy is designed to provide global chip and display manufacturers with a high-purity and cost-competitive materials supply chain combining India's chemical synthesis capabilities with South Korea's refining expertise.
Management Commentary
Commenting on the development, Naresh Patel, Chairman and Managing Director of Acutaas Chemicals, said the Gongju plant was inaugurated just 11 months after groundbreaking. He highlighted the combination of India's complex chemical synthesis capabilities and Korea's expertise in ultra-high-purity refining, describing the model as an important step towards scaling the semiconductor materials business into a long-term growth engine for Acutaas.
Jay Han, Chief Executive Officer of Indichem, said the facility represents the transition of the partnership from an ambition into an operational plant. He also highlighted the company's approach of bringing India's chemical capabilities closer to customers in Korea.
Focus on Semiconductor and Display Industries
Indichem manufactures specialty chemicals for the semiconductor and IT/display industries, with an initial focus on high-purity chemicals for semiconductor applications. The company has been established to build a geographically diversified supply chain for global chip and display manufacturers.
For Acutaas Chemicals, the development expands its portfolio beyond its established pharmaceutical-intermediate operations. The company is a research-driven specialty chemicals manufacturer serving pharmaceutical, semiconductor, battery chemicals, personal care, agrochemical and fine chemicals industries. It is also expanding into high-value specialty chemicals for emerging applications including battery materials, semiconductors and next-generation electronic applications.
